Couple of EL REMOLON cuts/(s)mash ups from the label that barely needs any introduction at GENERATION BASS.
Feast your ears to these whilst we await for ZZK RECORDS DIGITAL album release in June of my personal favourite from the label, VILLA DIAMANTE!
VD (man that sounds bad, in England it’s short-hand for Veneral Disease…haa.haaa) was kind enough to send me an EXCLUSIVE sneak pre-release copy of his album. Man, it’s everything and more, of what I was expecting from this very cool dude.
Not forgetting that many of his (s)smash ups helped to ‘DEFINE’ my GLOBAL GHETTOTECH MIX! (You can still get this at FAIRTILIZER and btw some guy I friended on FB left me a message saying he was doing his University dissertation on ‘GLOBAL GHETTOTECH’! as a music movement…..man that’s COOLIO…..Let’s just hope GENERATION BASS & VD et al get a mention).
Villa’s album drops in JUNE and so that’s an important date for your diaries.
Bersa Discos #5 just dropped, so I wanted to offer up an mp3 for the Generation Bass site. The entire EP was done by Toy Selectah, a producer out of Monterrey, Mexico who I’m guessing you’re familiar with. This tune is called “Hay Guey” and it’s a reworking of a song by Tzochitl Soundsystem. The rest of the EP includes remixes of tracks by Boys Noize, classic Peruvian chicha band Los Mirlos, Argentinian cumbia producer DJ Negro, and Panamanian dancehall MC Japanese. Toy also has an upcoming release on Mad Decent later in the year…
This cut got send out yesterday to the DROPBOX (send your tracks there if you have something to share ok). This is GRUPO CLAXON and I cant find diddly squat on em. But the track is good and the shakers do their thang! I love the drumrolls and the long vocal streches. Great party music!
Wow, the NORWEGIAN warlords of the psychedelic CUMBIA are back… They dropped another cut in the mail, still no myspace or site, so guys if you read this, PASS MORE INFO!!! Anyway, this is about 8 minutes of psychedelic CUMBIA bliss… I love it.
One of the most popular forms of CUMBIA is the bigband style stuff developed in the 50′s & 60′s. Of course this is very understandable, lush arrangements really add to the vibe and the percussionists and horn players go all out on this stuff. I’ve just found this cut at the AFRICOLOMBIA blog. Check it out!
This is the borderline right here. TECNO CUMBIA is the cumbia version with lots of cheap casio sounds and very very slick lyrics. Think prefabricated girly groups and blond young guys who sing over backing tapes. Aimed towards a lower class audience, this is despised by many. However… GB wouldnt be GB if GB couldnt find some decent music in there right? Here’s 2 cuts that are seminal in the genre:
Yes, hiphop beats and cumbia blend well! Check TOY SELECTAH’s blend of A MILLI and some nice cumbia and another great blend of an older TIMBALAND beat. CCUUMMMBBIIAAAAAAA!!!!
I love this track, it’s slight melancholy and it’s dragging rhythm. I’m trying to find more by this band, they are called SONIDO BASICO, great stuff so far, check it out:
Strange, psychedelic little blend of some old and new cumbia by DJ PINCHADO, who will also be a guest on our GEN BASS event in Holland in this September. CUMBIA LOCO…. check this out!
