Yes that’s correct. AOR band TOTO created a very nice song in the 80’s. Too bad i’m one of the few who seem to dig that tune these days! It’s perfect for a CUMBIANISED version because of the great percussion and the ubertight playing of the band! so hey… I present the LAST of SONIDO DEL PRINCIPE’s pop/cumbia remix crossovers…:
Back to some true STREET cumbia from SOUTH AMERICA. I want to focus on some of the newer groups that are coming from the VILLERAS and drop the authenthic stuff. This is EL ASPIRANTE, who drops his cumbia with peroxide, live percussion and lots of cheap ass synths. Keep it real!
It’s time to drop another new SONIDO DEL PRINCIPE edit. This is MARVIN GAYE’s great hit SEXUAL HEALING in a new CUMBIA rework. This is still a lover lover song, I’ve attempted to keep the shakers & percussion a bit modest to just emphasize MARVIN‘s great voice. Have fun!
One of the most popular forms of CUMBIA is the bigband style stuff developed in the 50’s & 60’s. Of course this is very understandable, lush arrangements really add to the vibe and the percussionists and horn players go all out on this stuff. I’ve just found this cut at the AFRICOLOMBIA blog. Check it out!
I found this mp3 in my inbox this afternoon, the artists name is HERMANOS BORACHAS (brothers.. something?) and the track is without a doubt one of the most psychedelic CUMBIAS i’ve heard. there was no info only the question if I could post this and the senders country, which was… Norway??
These two tracks of the BADEN POWELL QUARTET just breathe fire. What a great drive in both of them. If you find anything by BADEN POWELL just cop it, because that guy is the master of afrobrasil jazz as far as i’m concerned! check this out:
